Happy Monday and a belated Happy Thanksgiving. I took a few extra days off for the holiday, but I am back and ready to go. I was sitting at my computer the other day when I noticed my cat Orwell's tail swishing back and forth excitedly from his perch on my bookcase. I looked over to see his faced pressed against the glass of the window so I stood up to see what he was interested in. This is the picture of what I saw. I had put some food out for the birds and small animals just prior to this and had forgotten about it until I noticed Orwell's behavior. I watched him, watch the birds for a few minutes and was slightly amused by my felines reactions. Every time one of the birds would flap r hop he would adjust himself, let out a small purr like noise and then settle back on the bookcase. He got so excited at one point that he fell off. The noise scattered the birds and Orwell's fun was over. I felt a small smidgeon of guilt hit me as I realized that I was in essence teasing him by getting him all riled up about the birds. Its bad enough he's locked inside the house all winter but to tempt and tease him with fluffy, well fed birds frolicking out his window seemed a bit too much for me. I felt badly enough to give him a few treats and then I sat him down and explained how domesticated cats like himself don't need to kill or eat yucky wild birds when they have good, well balanced food in a bag and a can for him here in the house. I then explained to him how minus degree weather wasn't good for him and promised him that this spring I will take him out as much as possible. I don't think the speech worked since he now spends most of his free time either sitting in the same window or waiting for the front door to open so he can run out. Well I created the little monster so I have to fix it and I will be working on it all winter. In the meantime I'll still feed the little animals, especially since the temperature is dropping below zero again, I'll just have to make sure Orwell knows I'm not doing it to tease him. Well that's it for today, have a great day and I shall return tomorrow, until then........................PEACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
