My Field of Dreams Volume I

Written by Edgar Blaire

Forty thousand strangers become friends as the sounds of summer reverberate throughout the stadium creating a constant buzz of excitement.  Overpriced food and beverages become a smorgasbord of guilty pleasures.  Popcorn smells better and a hot dog is a delicacy and the sting of seven dollar beers dims the more you drink.  Children’s eyes are full of astonishment and awe as what they usually just see on tv becomes something much bigger and much more tangible, while their parents fondly recall games from their own past.

Anxious anticipation becomes energetic electricity as the snap of the first pitch from the force of the ball hitting the catcher’s glove punctures the air.  Forty thousand strangers transform into fans as the game gets underway.  Every pitch and every swing is scrutinized, often vocally as 40,000 voices unite to form a tidal wave of jeers or cheers that crush upon the stadium with the cacophonic force of a tsunami.  One can’t help but feel moved by the combined emotions of so many people.  The crack of the ball hitting the bat echoes throughout every aisle and bleacher even high up in the nose bleed seats.  There is no bad seat at a baseball game as the experience engulfs all five human senses.  Every fly ball looks like a home run, yet most fall harmlessly into an eager fielder’s anxious glove, yet forty thousand eyes follow the little white ball with red stitching no matter were it goes.  Catching a foul ball or seeing yourself on the jumbotron become the only real issues you have as the real world just sort of melts away.  Everyday worries and stresses disappear for three to four hours as the game becomes the only reality that matters.  Forty thousand individuals bound together by the camaraderie of the game immerse me in an aura of respect and peaceful relaxation as I get lost in the calming sensation of togetherness that comes with losing your daily worries even if it is only for a brief moment of my life.  Most of the time I wish the game would never end………PEACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
